There are 4 Board Positions to be Elected and 2 Board Positions to be Appointed.

The Board wanted the community to have a voice rather than just appointing themselves.  In order to accomplish this, each person will vote for 4 people.  The top 4 with the most votes will be the elected positions and the 5th and 6th place will be who the board will appoint at the Board Meeting following the Annual Meeting.  Please visit 2020 Voting (still to come) for more information regarding the Voting Process this year.

Note that elections are for Board Members, not officers.  Officers will be elected by the Board at the following Board Meeting after the Annual Meeting.

Additionally...due to the resignations, there is only ONE current Board Member, Laura Tijerina.  Consider the best Candidates that have the right experience that can help Laura, the Association and the Community be successful.

This can be done by choosing the Candidates who are the Best for the Community based on their experiences, engagement with the Community and how well they might work with the Board and the Community.

Good Attention to Detail and the Big Picture - Someone who can dive into the details while still focusing on the big picture

Commitment to Consistency – Conducting themselves with consistency both as an individual and the interaction with the Board and Community

Sense of Fair Play – A great Board Member is able to put personal agendas aside and treat everyone and all issues fairly that represent the best interests of the Association

Good Communication Skills – Positive rather than Negative Communication to foster Positivity amongst the Board and Community

Different objectives for being on the Board – Out for themselves and not the Community as a whole

Antagonistic Atmosphere – Someone whose tone seems unfriendly, cannot resolve conflicts in a kind way or can come across as a bully

Overstepping Board of Director Roles – Not adhering to or overstepping their duty or making decisions that are not in the best interest of the association

Not listening to others or eliciting their input – A functional Board works as a team; no one person is more important than the other

Disagreeing on Objectives or Priorities for the Board – Uniform timelines and goals are necessary to be effective to the Association

Blaming Others to elevate One’s self – There is no room in an Association to lay blame

PRESENT AND PAST BOARD MEMBER CANDIDATES

DENISE MURTHA

Current Board Member:

Yes, President 9 years

Rocky Creek POA Roles:

Current President (years), ACC/DR Review Committee Chair (1 year)

Past ACC (3 years), Social Committee (in some capacity over the 11 years), Technology Committee (2 years) and Webmaster (over 7 years)

Additional Experience:

I have also served on other non-HOA boards and committees, been responsible for achieving quotas and managing contractual terms worth over 10M, have mentored and been mentored myself, have led workshops/enablement, presented to C-Level individuals, have worked as a team in some capacity for well over 20 years as well as have been in management roles.  So I know how to present, listen to all sides, come up with solutions that benefit both parties (negotiate), make unbiased decisions based on consistency and fairness, delegate, take on responsibility where needed and I have been the face of the board even during times of adversity, but taking that role with the utmost integrity.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

I want to be on the Board for several reasons.  One...because there is only one Board Member with experience not being elected or appointed.  Having so many new people with little to no experience and history from this Board is not the best situation, hence why we have staggered elections.  Staggered elections ensure that there is enough experience to help new Board Members.  I have a tremendous amount of history and knowledge that no other has that can assist the Board.  Two...I have played many roles on the Board and have always been fair, consistent, and listened to people.  In fact, we have both reviewed and adopted many changes at the request of the community.  Third...in my current role as the President, I help the board to look at things in a different manner, listen during the Open Forums and make sure we address MOST community concerns where we can.  I help to make sure that everyone is working to one common goal...the communities interests.  And I do it with integrity even when faced with adversity.  I would like to continue to be on the board because I care about the community, just as everyone else.  To summarize, I bring history, experience and integrity with respect for others and I always try to guide the Board so that we are consistent and fair.

JOHN NGUYEN

Current Board Member:

No

Rocky Creek POA Roles:

Past Vice President (2 1/2 years)

Additional Experience:

I have been a member on several Boards in the past including the Asian Chamber of Commerce, Shell Employee Networks, CEONetweaver, and Rocky Creek to name a few.  Over the last 26 years, I have also served on Corporate Boards, volunteered in the community, and lead employee network groups.  Most of the positions have similar roles and responsibilities such as representing members of the community, be the voice on the board to champion improvement initiatives, do what is best for the community and company, raise funds for projects, create transparency and hold integrity to the position.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

My 26 years of experience working on Corporate Boards, Volunteering in the Community and Community Boards such as Rocky Creek, along with my belief of strong ethical leadership is important to bring the community together.  There are many voices that are not heard or drowned out and I believe I can represent or at least give those voices an opportunity to share their concerns.  I am not here to win popularity but to do what is best and fair for the community at large.  I hope to bring some experience and to weave the RC history of where we were to where we need to be.  I want to be on the Board because I desire to make a positive difference to the decisions (hard or easy) we need to make while representing the lot owners and homeowners.  I also want to hold board members accountable and keep the transparency of the decisions we make.

ROBIN BENNETT

Current Board Member:

Yes, VP 1 year

Rocky Creek POA Roles:

Current DR Committee Chair (3 years)

Past Property Manager (2 years)

Additional Experience:

I have been a Director in the Sub-Sea Business for over 10 years.  Being able to manage large teams while maintaining budgets and client expectations is key to success.  I am very organized and task driven and believe working with a diverse team is very important.  I strongly believe you are only as good as your weakest link.  I am able to remain professional, keeping emotions and personal feelings out of the equation.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

I believe with my professional business experience as well as my previous 3 years experience on the Board, I will be an asset to the Board as there will be a lot of new faces this year.  Even if I am not voted on this year, I will still strongly support all the new candidates and members of the Board as it is a lot of hard work to be on a Board.  We need to remember that all Board Members are volunteers striving to make this a great community we are all proud to call home.

Additional Experience:

In my profession, projects we are called to are dangerous and volatile.  It is a high stress and high intensity environment, where there is no room for error, safety is key, and all while dealing with client demands.  With this background, I fit the "Best Candidate Qualities"; attention to detail, as well as, not losing sight of the big picture; consistent; fair representation; good communication skills; unified group decision making.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

First and foremost, the continuation of keeping this community great.  This will be obtained by ensuring transparency of the association to the community, engaging the community to get their feedback on upcoming hot topics, all while keeping the bureaucratic elements to a minimum.  The vast majority that live here, moved here for a slower pace, more space, and less drama/red tape, which is what every other suburban neighborhood (i.e Bridgeland, Fairfield, etc.) has.  The freedom in this neighborhood is what makes it so great and it is my ope that it stays this way.  Additionally, while I am not a member of the current board and my previous neighborhood did not have an active association, I am an extremely active member of this community since moving here in 2018.  I step up anytime assistance is needed (i.e. fixing and painting the automatic gate, helping neighbors move things, lending tools/supplies, etc.).  If someone needs help in this neighborhood, I am always one of the first people they call, they know if I am able, I will help.

COLLEEN DALE

Current Board Member:

Additional Experience:

I have over 25 years experience serving on different types of governing boards.  I am a veteran public-school administrator who has served both as a high school and junior high principal, wth over ten years of experience attending and participating in monthly school board meetings.  I hold a Texas School Superintendent certification and have been formally trained in school board procedures, including parliamentary procedure/Roberts Rules of Order.  I am well versed at reading both law and policy, and have written board policy for school districts.  I have served on University Interscholastic League District Executive Committees (DEC) at multiple levels.  In college, I served as the Vice President of Finance in the Epsilon Eta Chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority where I monitored and supervised all financial business for the sorority.  In high school, my first board experience was serving as the Vice President of the Texas Association of Student Councils while serving as my high school Student Council chapter.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

I want to ensure this community stays fair, honest, and ethical in all practices and procedures.  I will work to make sure everyone has a voice in decision-making.  Decisions are made in the best interest of all community members, and the rules apply to everyone.  I think of this community as a little peace of heaven and will work to ensure it stays that way for us all.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

I have in my mind what's best for the neighborhood.  I try to maintain the upkeep of the lake and common drive area.  Mainly by keeping it mowed.  I like openness so decisions can be made with others input.  I do not like delaying things till tomorrow if they do not need to be....receive input from all sources, analyze that input and make decisions to move on them.  Many in the community have decided we need a change.  My fellow neighbors have asked me to consider running and I have accepted that request.

RICH DIXON

Current Board Member:

No

Rocky Creek POA Roles:

ACC/DR Review Committee

Additional Experience:

I have been on the Board for Clear Creek Forest 12 in Magnolia, a neighborhood of 150+ homes.  I was on the Board and President in a smaller neighborhood of about 70 homes in Houston.  I have also been an educational administrator for 17 years, most recently, Principal of Goodson Middle School in CFISD.  Throughout that time I have lead 2 very successful schools, Cypress Ridge High School and Goodson Middle School.  I have managed staffs of over 150, managed finances, worked with vendors, the renovation/addition of a high school and ensured the academic and physical safety and growth of the staff and students I work with.  I built my home here in 2009 and worked with the builder to ensure my home was built well and green certified.

Why do I want to be on the Board:

I have lived in Rocky Creek since 2010.  I built my house with the goal of helping this neighborhood grow.  This home, like everyone's is an investment and I want to ensure that my home value continues to grow.  I want to work with my neighbors to create a community that respects and works with each other to improve our common areas and watch out for each other.  I believe that this neighborhood has a lot of potential and that many of the residents have a common desire to live in a family friendly environment.  I believe that we need to be proactive when it comes to making decisions for the benefit of the neighborhood.
